They have a shorter shelf life compared to silver oxide batteries, but they still last pretty long regardless. They are cheaper to make (hence the smaller cost), the only problem with alkaline watch cells would be that they could potentially leak and could cause corrosion and damage your watch (or other devices that use these batteries.
