MacBook Air VS. Protégé R500

Apple MacBook Air vs Toshiba Protégé R500

Apple emerged on to the scene with its ultra slim MacBook Air and its performance and size left none to be desired with a few exceptions. Following there footsteps, Toshiba launched its Protégé R500 Series on June 5 and hasn't looked back.

Protégé offers a lighter profile, an optical drive and (a BatteriesInAFlashes Favorite) a battery boasting a full day of work on a single charge, all advantages over MacBook Air. Ok, so lets compare apples to apples. In The Left corner I have the Champion Macbook Air, weighing in at 3lbs., with an impressive 1.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo , 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM, 13.3in. screen, Wireless N, Bluetooth, 5hr battery life, iSight Cam and all just under a 3/4in hood. And in the Right corner I have the Challenger, Toshiba Protégé R500 Series, weighing in at 2.4lbs, with an 1.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM, Wireless N, Bluetooth, 5800mAh Li-Ion Battery, and 1in profile.

While both are great computers and have features that everyone would need or want, there is one disadvantage to the Protégé that I could see, Microsoft Vista. Vista is no comparison to Mac OS X Leopard or XP for that matter.

Even though Apple was the first to the market with its slim line, Toshiba is hardly Apple's Protégé!
