CES 2014

At the 2014 International CES, just like every each and every Consumer Electronics Show that has preceded it, we saw some amazing technological innovations. Although impossible to go through every groundbreaking product displayed at this global stage for breakthrough consumer technologies, we pulled out 5 novelties we thought worthy of sharing.

1. 3DSystems Cube 3

3D Printing has been taking the world by storm over the past few years and the 3DSystems Cube 3 is no exception. At only one cubic foot in size, this compact 3D Printer can fit anywhere and can print any object 6x6x6 inches in size. At only $1000, this device is probably going to be the one that makes 3D printing a viable option for the masses.

2. Samsung's 105'' Curved Television

We saw a tiny preview of Samsung using curved screen technology at last year's CES. However, at this year’s demonstration, we have finally seen the outcome of the technology. Ignoring Michael Bay's botched presentation, Samsung's new curved TV looks pretty impressive. The 105'' Ultra HD television hosts top of the line resolution and a curved display giving viewers an unmatched, cinema quality experience. The curved display gives the illusion that the picture is almost wrapping around you, creating a very unique, enveloping experience.

3. PlayStation Now

For those who love video games, PlayStation Now is definitely big news. Thanks to services like NetFlix, Hulu and HBO Go, streaming television shows and movies has become extremely commonplace. However, streaming video games seems like uncharted (no pun intended) territory. There was OnLive, which was released a few years back, but the streaming technology wasn't good enough to warrant an actual purchase. However, Sony's recent Gaikai acquisition is considered to be the next step in getting the technology right this time. PlayStation Now allows users to stream some of their favorite PS3, PS2, and PS1 games onto their PS4, PS Vita, or even their 2014 Sony Bravia televisions. This service offers players a chance to revisit their favorite games on a bunch of different platforms. As we've seen with NetFlix, there is a very good chance that this streaming service will become very popular among consumers.

4. LG Lifeband Touch

The Lifeband Touch is a small, easy to use fitness tracker. What makes it so cool? The fact that it's so user-friendly and simple. As you're going throughout your day, all you have to do is swipe on the tiny screen to access your notifications. These notifications include the amount of calories you have burned, along with other pertinent information regarding your daily activity. In addition, you can also connect this fitness tracker to your phone, connecting you to any missed notifications and more in-depth information.

5. Sleep Number x12 Bed

The Sleep Number x12 Bed straddles the line between interesting and creepy, as it monitors your every sleep habit. This bed has technology that will track your heart rate, movement, and breathing rate as you snooze. For those that want a little bit more insight into their sleeping patterns and what they need to enjoy a better night's sleep, this bed is exactly what you’ve been waiting for.
